New Witch Brew Teas

Hero image witches brews

Teas meant to aid in magickal endeavours have been a long time coming, witches! It’s interesting how hesitant I’ve been with creating these, wanting them to be just right. Though, I’ll be honest, wanting things to be just right is basically how I create all my teas, and therefore, sometimes the process is longer than I would like it to be. Still wonderful though, as experimenting and the process allows me to learn more about how I want to blend ingredients! It’s all worth it!

So the five new blends are as follows:
Felix Stellae will call upon your lucky stars to bring happiness, luck, and success into your life.

Prosperitas is a lovely prosperity spell in a cup.

Exilio eum Protego will banish negative energies from your life, and ward you thereafter.

Cantata Vesperum is the perfect blend to sip before a night of magick making and ritual.

Amor Verum is the quintessential love potion, delicious and floral.

You can follow the link to each of the teas above to find out what exact ingredients are used and why; or you can click here to see the whole collection!

Carving out Space

So, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about having a spot to write, to edit, a place to read my tarot, and do general witchy/mundane things. The Man and I’ve been chatting about getting nice furniture and what we’d like our spaces to look like (the which he doesn’t care about, so long as things are comfortable and not uber expensive, which leaves me to worry about the look of things, etc., which is more than fine with me!).
We are going to be getting a queen size bed (he’s too hot to sleep with more often than not, the furnace!), a nice reclining couch (in a dark, stain-hiding colour for when the future children come along), some sort of tv stand/storage unit, and a desk for me.

I was perusing desks, and thankfully I saw a standing desk (of course very expensive), but it reminded me I’ve wanted a standing desk. So after doing some perusing on the interwebs, I found some of the usual hacks for Ikea desks and such, and found out that they give you the option to buy the legs you like and the top you like separately. That was awesome thing number one. Awesome thing number two is that they have Finnvald legs, which look like saw horses, and have adjustable height dodads. And they’re made of wood, but I digress.

The legs I got are just plain wood, and the table top is a very dark brown.

So the only thing I will have to do is go out and buy some pieces of wood and replicate the adjustable wood pieces as they’re going to be a little too short for me, though not by that much (the table all on its own comes up to 36″ max, but my elbows bend at 40″, which is where you want it to be so that when you’re typing, it’s a 90 degree angle). The wood pieces will be super easy to procure, and I’m sure my fafa has a drill, so I will be set! And I may need something to set my laptop up on so that the screen is at eye height, but that will be an easy fix. It should be arriving at the end of next week 🙂

I’m excited to have a space I can have my things, as the Man’s desk is super messy, and not very big anyway. It will save me from getting angry that he’s leaving garbage all over the desk. I will be able to have my binder with my written notes on the stories I’m working on beside me and easily accessible, my laptop for more heavy duty editing, and space for my journaling. I’m expecting an increase of witchy things being done as well, such as spells and easier tarot reading. There have been a few spells I’ve needed to be doing for too long now.

It’s important to have a space you can do the things, without worry of being in the way, or not having the space to sprawl out as needed. Sitting cozy on the couch while writing my stories is fine, but it doesn’t work for when I need to go through what I wrote and take notes to make sure I have references to the plot and details. Going out to the kitchen table while other people are in the house (we live with my parents and another roommate who is a friend of theirs) pretty much all the time is just not feasible. The roommate does not explicitly know I am witchy, and they usually ask what I’m doing whenever I’m in the kitchen. Detracts from the magick.

Another great thing about having this space of mine is that I’m not going to really be able to see the TV and be distracted by the Man’s constant YouTube watching. He watches people playing video games, they’re colourful and interesting, not good for someone who’s trying to write and the laptop screen isn’t big enough to block the TV. So I’ll be able to pop in my ear buds, and type away when the Man is up during the day on his weekends.

I’ll have pictures up when I’m all set up, I hope it doesn’t take too long. I may not get the wood to make longer adjustable pieces right away since I won’t be too much taller than what I need, and we’ll see about making a stand for the big laptop (I have a tablet with a keyboard that I’ve been using as my main writing tool). I’m just really excited to have my own desk again, a place to be organized the way I want, a space where no one else will be coming in and messing up. Life is good 🙂

New Year, New You – Something I’ve Been Putting Off

Well, in a word, EVERYTHING. Lol, no clean yet, Yule decorations are still up, this past Sunday’s ritual didn’t happen (though I did have an impromptu Wednesday ritual). I’ve been so busy with my transcription and proofreading work (oh, did I tell you I’m working on sites like Fiverr now? Yes I am!), hand-sewing myself a new robe (which is almost finished), knitting pillow covers, reading a lot (I’ve got three books on the go right now), writing a “perfect spell” for my Wicca 101 class (well, it’s pretty much done, but there are some tweaks I’ve been making), and singing with my school’s Chorale.

Ok, so I’ve been busy, clearly, there aren’t many moments when I’m just sitting around doing something unproductive, it’s true. But I really want to get the apartment cleaned out! However, all the things I’ve been doing lately have some sort of timeline, some sort of due date! So if you’ve been wondering where I’ve been the past week and a bit, that’s what I’ve been doing!

I’m not saying all the work is a bad thing, in fact, I love having something to do, things to occupy my time that I feel are worth it 🙂

How have you all been doing?

Witchcraft & Religion

Witchcraft is not a religion. Pagan religions do not necessarily involve witchcraft.

The two can be blended, and with most Pagan religions, or paths, witchcraft is involved. When dealing just with witchcraft, you are “crafting” with intent, no specific deity or way to do it in mind.

1. the art or practices of a witch; sorcery; magic
2. magical influence; witchery

1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.

Witchcraft is something that can be integrated, and blended into either the religion of one’s practice, or integrated into one’s life who follows no specific religion. However, a belief in the energies that manifest your wishes is necessary.
Witchcraft is still receiving a lot of raised eyebrows, as that word has been synonymously associated to evil, and the devil, thanks to Christianity, and the misinterpretation of the original gospels.
Witchcraft (spells/rituals/chanting/creating crafts or charms, etc) is just another way to focus our intent to send out into the universe to bring about the things we want. We can send out prayers or wishes, and hope that the universe will attract what we want, or repel what we don’t.
The Craft for me is a tool to focus my intent. I do work with the Gods, so yes, they are usually involved. Sometimes woodland creatures have been involved, depends on what my need is.

Religion has always been an important part of human development. We have always had the need to believe that there is something bigger than us, that the chaos that life entails all means something. We pray to gods, dance and sing and sacrifice for them so that they may lay their blessings upon us. We devote time and thought and energy on them and for them.
Pagan religions can just be very simple, and involve no “witchcraft”. One can simply offer things up to their chosen deities, and be mindful everyday to live with thanks for what they have been given.

Finding Balance

When it comes to being witchy, most people who have no knowledge of the use of magic(k), or the worship of other deities/spirit think that what we do is “evil” and aiding “Satan”. In my life, I have found a lot of people who understand that we are all different and have different beliefs, and it doesn’t make us evil to believe so. And I’ve also found people who think I’m going to the Christian “Hell”, but really don’t care and we still get along great. We live in a time where most people can get along fine because there is such a social disconnect, which also means we can not get along fine in some cases because people are also taught to have no respect for ideas/people who are different than them, but I digress.

The reason why I’m writing this little bit is because I feel that it is imperative that we all find balance in our lives. This simply means, that we need to accept both our light and dark sides; both “white” and “black” magic(k). I don’t like using the terms “white” or “black” as I feel that all magic(k) is magic(k), at different moments in your life, you need different things. To follow a path that only focuses on the “good” stuff is to be in denial that our world has no evil in it, that our world has no darkness. We know this to simply be untrue. All the wars, all the bloodshed, diseases, slavery, abuse, rape; we can clearly see that the world is not all sunshine and lollipops. When something happens to you and you are in a dire situation, it’s ok to accept that you may have to perform a curse on someone, or bind them/send them away.
On the other hand, it is also not healthy to only focus on the darker side of things. This creates such an imbalance within ourselves that our minds become chaos (in both focuses).

Basically, there can be no light without the darkness, and vice versa. When you look at the Wheel of the Year, we see that there is the light half and the dark half. Each needs the other, the summer growth benefits from the dormant winter. The animals store summer harvests to survive the winter. Our reality relies upon a constant balance between these energies, the moon cycles through being full and being new. To acknowledge this is a good start, but to acknowledge that we all have this duality inside of us as well makes us that much more powerful when we perform magic(k), or energy work.
Without duality, we would simply not exist, with only female, or only male, there is no chance of reproducing.
